A hundred years of golf at Cleeve Hill has seen a large number of professionals play on the 6,411 18-hole par 72 course. Included in the Hall fo Fame are golfing icons such as Tony Jacklin and Peter Berry. The course, which exploits the landscape's natural contours, provides a great challenge for both professional and amateur golfers alike. The starting hole, at 558 yards in length, was once the longest first in the country. At the 9th, historic Roman works punctuate the terrain. On arrival at the 8th, you will have reached the highest point in the Cotswolds. The 13th is a tremendous par 5 - with its green at the centre of an Iron Age fort. Encircled by an earth bank and a ditch, it is probably the world's oldest man-made golf hazard! Without question, it has the indelible stamp of a classic signature hole. Thanks to excellent drainage and inspired green keeping, the course at Cleeve Hill is open all year round. And, when motorists in towns and villages below struggle in the midst of an impenetrable fog, the course remains elevated above the white carpet - like an island in the sky. Little wonder the club is known as "Cleeve Cloud".
